Solatube has released the Brighten Up Series, the biggest redesign of its tubular skylights in years. The way the system works has not changed- sunlight is still captured at the roof and carried down highly reflective tubing into the room- but almost everything you see and feel at the ceiling has been redesigned. You get more say in how the daylight looks, even better thermal performance for the Florida heat, and a new larger model for big rooms.
What Is the Solatube Brighten Up Series?
The Brighten Up Series is Solatube’s newest generation of tubular skylights. The daylighting works the same way it always has, but Solatube redesigned the delivery zone at the ceiling, added new thermal technology, and replaced the single standard diffuser with two fixture collections you can choose from. The updates give homeowners more control over how daylight looks in each room, and offers better performance against the Florida heat.
ComfortSeal Technology and Energy Efficiency for Florida Homes
The upgrade that matters most in Florida is ComfortSeal technology. The redesigned fixture uses a four point seal system that limits the hot and cold air exchange where the skylight meets your ceiling. There’s also optional stackable ThermoLens layers that reduce air infiltration further. The new series keeps conditioned air in and attic heat out better, so you get the daylight without asking as much of your air conditioner.
Solatube Fixture Collections: ThinLine and Contour
The series is organized into two design families. ThinLine fixtures are made to sit nearly flush and blend into the ceiling, while Contour fixtures are more sculptural and add depth and presence overhead. The Solar Guys carry specific fixtures from both, which we cover next.
In Stock Solatube Fixtures: Vusion, OptiView Frost, and TierDrop
To keep installs simple and same day, our crews carry a set of fixtures you can choose from right at your appointment. The Solar Guys install the ThinLine Vusion, a clean, classic diffuser that delivers soft, uniform daylight and suits almost any room, as our standard fixture. It comes with your Solatube Daylighting System unless you upgrade to the Contour OptiView Frost or TierDrop. Those two upgrades change the character of the light: the OptiView Frost uses a frosted Fresnel lens to light the ceiling and spread daylight high onto the walls, and the TierDrop sends light through cascading contours for an even halo that works well in larger rooms.
Special Order Square Solatube Fixtures
If your ceiling already uses square recessed lights or vents, Solatube offers square versions of several fixtures so the skylight blends in to your existing styling. The SoftView Square gives a soft, glare free, pearlescent glow, the OptiView Square delivers bright, even daylight through a crystal like Fresnel lens, and the JustFrost Square uses a frosted lens for a soft, diffused glow. All three are available by special order, so if a square fixture is the right fit, we plan for it and confirm it with you before install day.
The Solatube 290 DS Plus for Large Rooms
The biggest addition to the series is the Solatube 290 DS Plus, a 21 inch model built for the rooms a standard skylight cannot fill on its own. Great rooms, open kitchens, and vaulted spaces get a wider, more balanced spread of daylight and a bolder presence on the ceiling, with the same clean look and heat control as the rest of the line. Like the square fixtures, the 290 DS Plus is ordered for your project, so we confirm the details with you ahead of install.
